VOLUNTEER

The Pride Center is a special place to volunteer. Through the Infoline, the dozens of support groups and programs, and the social activities at the Center, we make it possible for people just “coming out” to feel less alone and frightened. For those of us who are already “out,” PCNJ provides a wealth of information, programs and services.

When you join our family of volunteers at PCNJ, you help everyone along this spectrum. Whatever your reason for volunteering – to meet new people, gain work experience, or give back to the community – giving your time to PCNJ can be a richly rewarding experience.

Several volunteer opportunities are available. See below for a full listing.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out and submit our online application. You may also send e-mail to or phone us at 732-846-2232.

Volunteer Opportunities! Make A Difference!

Board of Trustees – The Board is the governing and decision-making body of PCNJ. Trustees are expected to bring a strong commitment to the organization, play an active role in fundraising and serve on a board subcommittee. Terms are three years. Attendance at monthly board meetings is expected. The Board is particularly interested in applicants with a background in mental health fields or social work, community activists, seniors and those with previous non-profit experience, including fundraising and marketing/promotions. Interested applicants should send a letter or interest and resume to the attention of the Board Secretary, care of PCNJ.

Shift Volunteer - (We always need Shift Volunteers!) - Shift Volunteers are responsible for greeting and assisting our visitors, as well as assisting our callers on the Infoline. Friendly, personable people needed! Becoming a Shift Volunteer is a great way to learn about PCNJ, meet new people, and become familiar with the LGBTIQ community in New Jersey. You have the added benefit of knowing that you personally help people on every shift! A great entryway into LGBTIQ volunteerism!

Volunteer Coordinator - Responsible for maintaining the Shift Volunteer schedule, hiring and coordinating the training for Shift Volunteers, scheduling and facilitating volunteer meetings, and generally managing Shift Volunteers. An important job for a great people person! Works closely with the PCNJ Executive Director.

Fundraising Committee – Lend your time and energy to keeping PCNJ financially strong! Our committee tackles fundraising from all angles – special events, membership, and grantwriting. Help manage an event. Find sponsors. Write a fundraising appeal. Coordinate a membership drive. Help maintain our growing database of supporters. Research grant prospects. There are many, many opportunities to help in this area.

Marketing Committee – Our Marketing Team oversees the website, e-news, PCNJ ad placement and sales, and is responsible for producing our Quarterly Newsletter and all other printed promotions and displays. We look for writers, editors, graphic designers, photographers, marketers, and volunteers proficient in website design, management, and internet communications.

Program Committee – This committee supports and develops all Center programs, including support groups, educational activities, health/wellness services, advocacy efforts, recreational activities, and outreach activities and group recruitment to bring a variety of new programming into PCNJ. Oversees the InfoLine and Library. Maintains the PCNJ calendar of events.

Information Technology Helpers – Help move us into the 21st Century with our technologies! We need assistance with the general upkeep of our computer systems and databases, as well as a guiding hand to help us modernize and keep pace with our organization’s rapid growth.
