Eugene began volunteering at the Center in 2014 as a host and soon got further involved in events and committees. He joined the Board of Trustees in 2015 as the Volunteer Coordinator and continued that role in 2016. For the third part of his term, he has become the Marketing Trustee with the goal to expand the Center’s reach on social media and increase marketing participation from volunteers. He has also taken the opportunity to provide insight from life experiences as a panelist at several conferences hosted by the Center on the topics of sexuality, gender, and Latinx ethnicity. Early in his volunteer experience, Eugene became an Adult Mentor for the Youth Drop-in program, and later became a Facilitator for the revamped social and support group for young adults, called YASS! Both of these programs focus on fostering the self-actualization of LGBTQA+ youth in a safe and affirming space, a mission Eugene believes is of prime importance to the community.
