Jeffrey Kagan (he/him) was elected to the Pride Center of New Jersey’s Board of Trustees in January 2017. As a closeted hockey player living a life of solitude, Jeffrey was inspired to come out of the closet in 1997 after Ellen DeGeneres told the world she was gay. Two years later, he co-founded the New York City Gay Hockey Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which provides an environment free of harassment and discrimination for members and friends of the LGBT community to play ice hockey and fulfill their athletic aspirations. He served over 17 years as the organization’s director.

After learning first-hand about the positive effects an LGBT sports group had on it’s members and it’s community, Jeffrey went on to co-found Out of Bounds NYC (2000), the New York City Gay Basketball League (2006) and Jersey Out Bowling (2013). Jeffrey also served as the Tournament Director for Gay Games 9 Ice Hockey in Cleveland, Ohio (2014). 

In 2003 Jeffrey was honored by his peers at HBO as a recipient of the Andrew Heiskell Community Service Award, one of 12 honorees chosen from among Time Warner's 90,000 employees worldwide. In 2008, Jeffrey was named Sports Out Loud Magazine's Athlete of the Year. He has written dozens of articles about LGBT athletes for Next, Compete and GO Magazines. He’s appeared in a segment on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart called “Puck Buddies”, and he is featured in “Jocks 2” by Dan Woog, and “The Outsports Revolution: Truth and Myth in the World of Gay Sports”, by Cyd Zeigler. 

Jeffrey Kagan and his husband Joel Pascua are the Broker-Owners of KP Edgestone Realty in Matawan and Jamesburg, New Jersey.
