Sharleen is a feminist songwriter/singer and guitarist known for speaking truth to power in a strong distinctive voice. In 1993 Sharleen founded a topical song magazine called Songs for Peace and for the next six years, under the guidance of Pete Seeger, published more than one hundred songs on peace, ecology and human rights. To this day her commitment to peace and justice remains at the core of her musical expression. Her stirring and heartfelt lyrics, delivered with an earthy unprententiousness, hark back to her inner city roots. Inspired by the revolutionary songs of artists like Bob Dylan, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Phil Ochs, Sharleen performs with a warmth that cuts through despair, encouraging a collective response to the urgent issues of our time.
Sharleen recently released “Rumors of Peace,” her second collection of original topical songs. Contact:http://www.rumorsofpeace
Sharleen will be joined by percussionist Linda Phillips
OPENING FOR SHARLEEN WILL BE COMEDIAN JULIA SCOTTI
“Hilarious, powerful, dynamic, real…if you combine Sam Kinison and Mrs. Doubtfire you have Julia Scotti!” These are just some of the things people are saying about Julia as she changes the way we think about age and a WHOLE lot more. She has appeared on the original Comedy Central and was the winner of Showtime’s Funniest Person in America contest for New Jersey, losing the finals to Ellen DeGeneres. Julia’s amazing ability to tackle serious issues with extremely relatable humor has audiences of all ages and backgrounds falling in love with this “crazy old lady of comedy”. Julia performs all over the country and is a regular at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas and the Borgata, Atlantic City. She will be coming out with her memoir next year, has co-written a TV pilot that has recently wrapped production, and is currently working on her one woman show for the fall.
